Donald Dewar MP

First Minister, Scottish Parliament

Donald Dewar has lead  a campaign to have Clause 28 repealled in Scotland by the Scottish Parliament, of which he is First Minister.

Section 28 is a section of law which prohibits the promotion of homosexuality in schools. Many parents, we believe most, would not wish to have their children 'educated' about homosexuality, but they have had no say in the issue. Repeal was not part of Labour's manifesto in the 1997 general election. The issue is essentially concerned with parents rights to control their children's education. As we show elsewhere on this website, there has been a concerted campaign since the 1960s to eliminate men's rights within the family.

A Scottish businessman, Brian Souter, has offered to finance a referendum in Scotland to allow the public the opportunity to have their voice heard. Dewar was heard to say on TV on Tuesday 28 March 2000, with regard to the referendum proposal :

"we can't have the country run by private individuals and private referendum".

However, the proposed referendum was intended to provide not a 'private' referendum, but allow the public to give their opinion on the subject for the first time. This raises the question of what Donald Dewar means by his statement. We appear to have little democracy in the UK by which ordinary folk can have their wishes granted, and Mr Dewar's statement simply confirms the situation.
